Hallo, Nederlands

After much anticipation, the visa is finally approved! If everything goes as plannede (i.e. going to NYC to pick up visa, and purchasing an overpriced airticket thanks to the Worldcup) I should be in Amsterdam in less than a week.

In the meanwhile, we saw X-Men3. If you haven't seen it yet - BE SURE to stay till the end of the credits! He's also been doing a crazy amount of furniture shopping, and I got a kick out of assembling his desk and dresser all by my dextrous self. hehe.

My Fair Lady

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058385/

This is probably my new favorite movie. Even though it is one of those timeless classics, I just got to see it yesterday :) I wasn't so impressed by Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, but in my Fair Lady she's simply muy brilliante.

ONe of my favorite lines from the move:

Professor Henry Higgins: There even are places where English completely disappears; in America they haven't used it for years.

Well...

Waiting for the Dutch visa is driving me up the wall. Well, I'm going to take a break from waiting by driving to New York / New Jersey with nick, em, and ben next week. It'll be a looooong road trip in a less than comfortable u-haul van, but am nonetheless looking forward to a change of scenary, and be 500 mi closer to the eastern coast of Europe ;)

So everyone's almost gone from ann arbor now. I'm spending an inordinate amount of time reading Terry Pratchett, and yesterday finally started reading something else. I picked up this book called Iran Awakening, an autobiography about a young Iranian woman's path towards building a better Iranian society as a lawyer. She wrote about the US-backed overthrowing of Iran's first democratically-elected government, and her subsequent effort in overthrowing the unpopular shah, resulting in a church(Mosque?)-state that eventually forced her to step down as a female judge. I think I just found a role model in her :)
